(2/17/06) Reston’s Alliance for a Better Community (ABC) announced today that after carefully considering all candidates for the Reston Association Board of Directors election, the Alliance has endorsed:
-Kathleen Driscoll McKee for South Lakes Director
-Mark Watts and Jennifer Blackwell for the two At-Large Director
seats
ABC, which was founded eight years ago as a non-profit Reston community action group, supports civic-minded candidates in nonpartisan community organization elections who share the belief in Robert Simon’s seven founding principles for our community. The current Elections Chair, Ellen Douglas, said that ABC was especially “pleased to endorse this strong slate of exceptionally qualified candidates.”
Kathleen McKee, known for chairing the popular Reston Historic Trust Home Tours, has over twenty-five years experience as a community volunteer in recreation and environmental programs in Reston and is committed to a program to identify and instruct ‘new generation leaders’ for the community. Ms. Douglas stated that “Kathleen will make an excellent representative for residents of the South Lakes area.”
Jennifer Blackwell, the current President of the Board, is a proven RA leader known for her hard work in outreach to the community during development of the revised governing documents. Jennifer has earned another term and wishes to continue outreach to RA members to determine how RA can better meet membership needs.
To round out the slate, ABC feels fortunate to identify and enthusiastically endorse Mark Watts, a ten-year Reston resident who lives the Reston dream of living, working and playing in Reston. An experienced CPA and principal of a Reston CPA firm, Mark will promote financial planning that ensures high quality services for RA members. “All in all, this is an incredible group of candidates,” said Ms. Douglas.
